In Spain, aspiring PhD students of any nationality can apply for:

PhD students from other countries sometimes apply for funding in their country of origin to do a PhD at a foreign university.
Aspiring postdocs of any nationality can apply for:
the national Juan de la Cierva grant, for applicants who have obtained their PhD up to 2 years ago. This program has yearly calls.
the national Ramón y Cajal grant (5 years duration) for applicants who have obtained their PhD 2 to 11 years ago. This program has yearly calls.
the Margarita Salas fellowships of 2-3 years (for recently graduated PhD students, application via the university, UAB)
the María Zambrano fellowships (for international fellows with at least 2 years postdoctoral experience in a different university than where they graduated; application via the university, UAB),
the Beatriu de Galindo fellowships.

June 29th, 2022: We have two open positions at the COALESCE Lab:
Research technician (técnico superior the recerca; MSc) in agent-based modeling on society-wide networks, full-time (35 h/week) for 3,5 months, starting on September 1st, 2022. No proficiency in Spanish or Catalan is needed, just English. See for all the details (in Catalan and in English), the job announcement on the university's site (identifier 2022PILEUA105). Research assistant (técnico/a superior de recerca; BSc/BA or MSc/MA) for support to the COALESCE Lab and the different projects we conduct (14 h/week), starting on September 1st, 2022. For this job, it is important that you either speak Catalan or Spanish fluently (both are a plus, but it is certainly not required to speak both) and that you speak English (this is required). The work must be conducted on site (no teleworking). The job is first offered until the 31st of May, but may be extended for a longer period of time. June 7th, 2022: Four research assistants (10h/week), from September 1st to December 15th, for qualitative interviews in the international research project "Inclusivity norms to counter polarization in European societies" (see the projects page). Bachelor's degree in social sciences and proficiency in Spanish and Catalan are required. February 2nd, 2022: For the ERC Advanced Grant project "A network science approach to social cohesion in European societies" (see the projects tab for more information), we have four open positions at the UAB in Barcelona, one postdoctoral and three predoctoral positions, each for four years full-time. You will have the possibility to participate in an international, large-scale research project with a team of researchers, who will carry out a cross-national European study (survey, agent-based modeling, and qualitative research). Please check out the calls on Euraxess (see below) and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Bear in mind that the four positions have different deadlines!

The three PhD students:
are expected to enter the doctoral program of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the UAB, or, if desired, another doctoral program at the UAB (see here for the list of programs), in agreement with the thesis advisors.
have the option to do a doctorate under international joint supervision if they wish so, which involves writing one PhD thesis that is submitted in two programs in different countries, as explained in the Euraxess calls and here. It is optional - by no means required.
have an additional budget for a three-month stay abroad, and their costs of enrolment in the doctoral program, travels and registration fees for conferences, and the printing costs of their PhD thesis will be covered by the lab.
Information on Spanish income tax rates is given in the calls. People of any nationality can apply.
